Warren's Unconventional Marriage

It's nice to see unconventional relationships getting positive press.

The relationship itself isn't really news. Warren had a long relationship with his first wife Susan, who died in 2004. Susan introduced him to Astrid, and the three of them were together for many years. Astrid and Warren lived together after Susan moved to San Fransisco. The three signed cards jointly.

“Unconventional is not a bad thing,” Susie Buffett said. “More people should have unconventional marriages.”

I've always been an atheist.
I never believed in Santa Claus, never believed in God or any of the other things that were part of my Catholic religious education. The bible was this really big book with stories that the nuns really liked. I read a lot of science fiction in grade school (and later), and there were religions described in these books that I liked better.

At some point I realized that other people actually believe in these religious ideas.

In junior high & high school I spent some time figuring out how people reconcile science with religion. (It wasn't complicated.) In high school I wrote a paper for an English class on religious conversion in adolescents. I was wondering how people come to believe the religious things they believe. I considered whether I was really an atheist or an agnostic. Agnostic seemed nicer, not quite as harsh as atheist. I decided that atheist was more accurate.

Sometimes I'm still a little surprised when I realize that people I know or meet have religious beliefs, especially ones tied into organized religious packages that involve believing several specific things, with attendant rules, regulations and voting instructions. Agnostics or humanists or people with vague 'spiritual' ideas regarding the purpose of the universe are much easier to relate to.
